Empowerment in Education
Empowerment in Education
We empower parents by teaching them their parental rights and how to practice them.
We also encourage parents to advocate for legislation that supports parental rights and learning options.
The future depends on our children and they depend on us.
“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” Benjamin Franklin
The State of Education in Georgia
How does Georgia stack up compared to other states?
According to the World and US News Report, Georgia ranks 26th in education. Georgia ranks 13th fiscally, indicating that the problem with our education is not financial.1
Wallet hub, accessing schools nationally with a 32 key metric system, ranked Georgia even worse, scoring 35th.2
Regardless of how Georgia ranks compared to other states, test scores and content knowledge are declining nationwide. Georgia is not exempt.
Taking back our children’s education starts at the local level.
Equipping Parents
Georgian parents have more rights than most probably know. In fact, Georgia is one of 18 states that has passed a Parent’s Bill of Rights.
“The General Assembly finds that it is a fundamental right of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their minor children.” HB 1178 2022
But rights must be understood and practiced to be meaningful.
We encourage parents to understand their rights, manifest their authority, and utilize available resources to bring about positive change.
Our group will provide resources for parents such as instructions on how to do open records request and how to opt their child out of certain things such as sex-ed and surveys.
We partner with the advocacy group Freedom in Education.
Legislation
Lastly, we advocate for legislation that gives families the option of school choice and protects parents’ rights in education.
We believe that parents should have the freedom to choose the best educational path for their children, whether that be through traditional public schools, charter schools, private schools, homeschooling, or other alternative options.
By advocating for school choice policies and parental rights protections, we endeavor to empower families to make informed decisions about their child’s education and access high-quality learning opportunities that meet their unique needs.
Taking Action
Empowerment in Education is focused on empowering parents to impact and take positive control over their children’s welfare and education.
We collaborate with other groups, who, in addition to working with parents, work directly with teachers, schools and government administrators.
Freedom in Education
One group that we have found especially committed and engaged is Freedom in Education, a 501 (c) 3 organization. This group has demonstrated a steadfast focus on enhancing education through clear depoliticized standards, while empowering parents and teachers.
Because of commonality of purpose, Empowerment in Education is an Ambassador for Freedom in Education.
Since its launch in September 2023, the Freedom in Education has made significant strides including developing new K-12 Science and Math Standards and creating a Constitution Week Curriculum. They have donated over 1,000 books to schools across 22 states.
The urgency of their work is underscored by the fact that national assessments reveal that only about a third of students demonstrate proficiency in reading, math, and science. In response to these disappointing statistics, Freedom in Education is taking action to equip teachers, parents and schools with the tools to restore academic excellence. The plan is to deliver new K-12 Math, Science and English Language Arts standards, impacting 4 million students.
President and co-founder, Melissa Jackson, invites you personally to get involved with Freedom in Education. She states, “Take Action with Freedom in Education. As parents, teachers, and mentors, we hold the key to shape a brighter future for the next generation together. The journey towards a better tomorrow starts today, with the little hands we hold and the minds we nurture. Together, let us sow the seeds of wisdom, for investing in their education, we sow the seeds of hope, progress, and a brighter future for all. We have opportunities for everyone to get involved and make a difference. Please reach out to info@freedomined.org for more information on how to get involved in saving America’s education and future.”
