Electing Leaders Who Care
There is a movement called MAHA (Make America Healthy Again).
Robert Kennedy Jr. is the best-known spokesman for this movement. As the Head of Health and Human Services, we hope his voice and actions will manifest positive change.
Who Doesn’t Want a Healthy America?
The problem is that there are legislators who do not appreciate the ideas proposed in the Make America Healthy Again movement. Why? Chances are some of the antagonists are financially supported by those in the medical industrial complex.
Those who wish to see American health care reformed need to oust from office those who work to stop reform.
The Challenges of Electing Leaders Who Care
It’s possible to find candidates who strongly support reform. But they must run in primaries against heavily funded incumbents. Far fewer people vote in primaries than in presidential elections. Most of them have little to no idea who stands for what in state and local matters.
The solution to the primary problem is increased political involvement year-round. This helps provide worthy candidates with a grassroots activist base. Such an active base can actually overcome the underfunding of good candidates.
When elected officials, funded by corporations, are opposed year-round by an active grassroots organization, money alone won’t get the reelected.
The Primary Solution is Grass Roots
Incumbent candidates with ample corporate funding are most vulnerable in primaries when fewer people vote. A grassroots organization can get people going door to door sharing their message and getting out the vote to defeat an incumbent.
The more active a grassroots organization is the more effective (and worrisome) it can be to corporations and their paid stooges.
How to Get Involved
Grassroots involvement is not a full-time job. It can begin with as little as a change of how you spend your time getting informed. Instead of consuming corporate funded nightly news, take the time to see what you can learn on Fulton County Speaks. You’d be amazed at the things you can learn that the corporate media does not want you to know.
The next step is to share this information with others who have common sense and want a better America.
Share Your Voice and Make Friends
Third, comes the opportunities to share your voice with elected officials regarding issues you care about. Fulton County Speaks helps make this process easy.
Fourth, can be quite enjoyable. You can go to grass roots meetings and make new friends who share your concerns. Some such meeting could be potluck dinners or a fun gathering at restaurants. There is no better way to make friends than by breaking bread and discussing similar purposes.
Fifth, is the opportunity to go with your friends to public meetings. You can choose to speak or simply to be counted. Both have a profound impact.
Support Like-Minded Candidates
Sixth is to get active in campaign season for candidates you now know you want to support. They may be among the new friends you made.
Seventh, and VERY important, is to help get out the vote. Primaries are the time the fewest votes are needed from people inclined already to think like you.
Do you want to meet some like-minded and action-oriented folks? Get Involved!
